The Little Red Dog - Rescue Organization
Who is The Little Red Dog?
PJ and Steve are a dynamic duo who started The Little Red Dog with a mission to rescue dogs of all types, give them lots of care, and find loving homes for them. The name is inspired by the sad story of the little red pitbull who was brutally beaten to death by his owner, because he didn't have the audacity to fight another pit bull.
What Sets the Little Red Dog Apart from Other Shelters?
The amazing thing about The Little Red Dog, is that it's truly a labor of love. PJ and Steve both have full time jobs, so the organization runs off of the love and compassion they have for these dogs that need homes.
With many reasons why the Little Red Dog is so different from other animal rescues and shelters, one primary distinction is the way the organization is set up. Both PJ and Steve possess a successful background in business and really value the importance of customer service. They noticed that other shelters were very slow at responding to customer requests, did not provide helpful service, and were not customer oriented. PJ and Steve saw a big need to develop that side of the business, which sparked their initial idea to start their own company focused on the needs of their clients and making sure to respond and communicate in timely and efficient manners.
Another differentiating factor at The Little Red Dog is that PJ and Steve are very hands-on in the dog adoption process. If a customer expresses interest in adopting a pup, PJ and Steve personally meet one-on-one with the potential owner and make sure it's a good match.
'We wanted to create a system that is simple and efficient and very hands-on. We like to meet with prospective owners and make sure they are a right fit for our dogs. For example, if the dog is highly active and the owner doesn't exercise often, then we consider this disparity and give them other options that would be more suited for their lifestyle.'
PJ and Steve's ultimate goal is to set their dogs and owners up for success. Which brings us to another great feature offered by the Little Red Dog (that other shelters lack.) In order to ensure a smooth transition for both owner and pup, The Little Red Dog offers helpful (and affordable!) training classes on Saturday geared to teach the owner how to properly train their dogs.
How to Get Involved and Help:
'We rescue more than we should, or have money for, but it's just because we care and it's so hard to say no to a dog in need. We don't discriminate on the type of dog - every breed matters to us.'
Speaking of rescuing, we rescued our pup Grace (above, left) from the Little Red Dog! She had parvo when they found her as a puppy, but Steve and PJ immediately got her the medicine and vet attention she needed and saved her life her. We feel so lucky and love her lots, and so does our other pup Buster (from a different rescue.) They get along famously!
The Little Red Dog welcomes all dogs, even dogs that are sick. Although they require more attention, care, and efforts to bring them back to health, it's worth it. In addition, every dog is spayed/neutered and vaccinated. As you can guess, none of this is inexpensive. In fact, it requires a great deal financially to properly facilitate even just one successful rescue and adoption. Which is why we want to ask for your help! One of Little Red Dog's biggest needs is raising funds so that PJ and Steve can properly care for these puppies, and say 'yes' to as many as they possibly can.
Please consider donating to Little Red Dog. If you're unable to give financially at this time, your volunteer services are also greatly appreciated!
