Free 'Fred Rose' Art Exhibit May 15th

I caught up with my friend and insanely talented artist, Fred Rose to ask him a few questions about his upcoming exhibit in Costa Mesa. I’ve always been fascinated at how seemingly effortless he transposes natural materials into art. Besides the tremendous amount of creativity, I know there’s a lot of hard work, craftsmanship and skill that goes into every piece he brings to life. Follow along with me to learn more about the process behind his work and discover more about the upcoming exhibit - and did I mention it’s FREE?!

Okay so I may have embellished a little.... you do need a ticket for the main exhibit, but the lecture with Fred Rose is completely no cost to you, and I promise it’ll be so worth it!

Fred has been wood sculpting for over 20 years, so it’s no secret that his masterful techniques are sought after by many. Influenced by poetry and the nuances of life, Fred creates unique pieces intended to invoke thoughtfulness from the viewer.

Fred said: “I am interested in how the spectrum of traditions in wood, from utilitarian woodworking to wood sculpture, can act as a visual poetry about the nature of the physical world as well as the quirks of being human. Wood is the product of a living organism, such as the human body is,and as a material it too records the history of its growth and the scars of its life.  I believe that people know that wood comes from trees but often have lost the understanding that wood is flesh and not plastic, and my work is partly an attempt to remind people of this.'

I can’t wait to check out the exhibit and learn more about the process that goes into creating such interesting and evocative pieces of art.

On Sunday May 15th from 1:00-2:30, check out the free lecture at the Carnegie Gallery. You won’t want to miss this event!

More details: Sunday, May 15: 1-2:30pm
