Must Visit: Blackmarket Bakery Costa Mesa

The Blackmarket Bakery is nestled inside Costa Mesa’s outdoor shopping spot known as The Camp. Offering savory and sweet treats, tasty drinks, and other must-try sandwiches and snacks, The Blackmarket Bakery has certainly made a name for itself. Founded by Chef Rachel in 2013, many of her culinary creations are inspired by her Southern roots. Growing up with two “sugar-loving grandmothers”, Rachel learned much of her baking from the family and culture she grew up in, and then later went on to graduate at the top of her class from the Culinary Institute of America.

The name Blackmarket Bakery is inspired by the fundamentals of baking - butter, flour, sugar, and eggs, which were known as black market goods during WII.

When you walk in, you will be pleasantly welcomed by the aroma of freshly baked cookies, buttercream cakes, pastries and more.

There’s plenty of seating and interesting artistry on the walls, which serves as a perfect conversation piece on a first date or meeting up with friends.

As an added bonus, there’s free WIFI available inside, which is a perk that many iphone addicts and freelance writers love about Blackmarket Bakery.

In addition to their scrumptious goodies, Blackmarket Bakery serves as a full retail store, serving chocolate and artisan goods, t-shirts, retro-style lunch boxes, and more.

“The goal of The Black Market Bakery is to mirror Rachel’s original passion, to create a conscious moment of indulgence for anyone who dares partake.”

P.S. If you’re having a “cheat day”, one of my favorite things on the menu is their freshly baked cookies. If you’re feeling extra risky, try the abominable sundae - a yeti cookie with toasted marshmallow and coconut topped with smooth vanilla ice cream and chocolate ganache. Perfection!

P.S.S. You can also spot Blackmarket Bakery in downtown Santa Ana. And be on the lookout - a new location is coming soon to North Park in San Diego!

Whether you want to satisfy your sweet tooth, get your coffee fix, or try out a savory sandwich, if you’re in the Costa Mesa area, I definitely recommend you visit the Blackmarket Bakery. You will not be disappointed!
