Illumination Foundation Brings Light to Homeless
I first heard about Illumination Foundation from a friend at St. Simon and Jude in HB. She pointed out a friend who was doing outreach to the homeless along the river trail. I was so intrigued I researched a bit and found an article in the Orange County Register that explained how one nurse, one case manager and a couple other caring staff members would hop on their bikes and ride over 20 miles to connect with homeless people each week alongside the Santa Ana River Trail - providing first aid, a simple conversation, and a listening ear. They go out 4 x per month and are planning to expand this program, as many homeless are in high need. I was so touched by this story - I couldn’t help but want to get involved.
I’m thrilled to announce that Sinae, Director of Development for Illumination Foundation, is joining us on the blog today to share more about Illumination Foundation and their efforts to help homeless youth and people of all ages in Orange County.
How did this all get started?
What we do at Illumination Foundation is innovative, efficient, hands on and very personal. We started by providing housing services in 2007. We would house families in local motels. It’s a very holistic approach. We find ways to reach the most vulnerable individuals who are out there in our community, and find ways we can help them. Since we started providing services, we've been able to house over 2,000 families. That’s why we do what we do.
In what ways does Illumination Foundation help homeless youth?
During the summer we run a summer program for kids who are in high need. Many are currently living in transition or have been homeless in bouncing from place to place within a community. Some may be living in emergency housing units. It’s a mix of students that utilize this program. It’s structured like an early intervention program that provides:
There are so many foundations that need help, what personally made you pick Illumination Foundation?
It’s a huge passion of mine. The more you do this work, the more you realize anyone can fall into this situation. We’re all human. It just takes a situation like a single mom who is working full time and loses her job and runs out of savings. It’s important for myself and our organization to increase public education about HOW people become homeless and why they are still in a state of crisis.
How Can WE ALL Get Involved to Help?
We have two very special events coming up to raise funds that will support the diverse programs we offer at Illumination Foundation, with high hopes to break the cycle of homelessness.
OC Chefs Table
On March 12th, Illumination Foundation will be hosting the OC Chef’s Table at Disney’s Grand CA Hotel and Spa.
This will truly be an event to remember. Some of the most renowned Orange County chefs will prepare exceptional 5-course meals tableside, paired with an evening of spirits, live entertainment, raffle prizes, and stunning auction items.
Individual tickets, table reservations, chef participation or sponsorship opportunities are available. All proceeds go to Illumination Foundation programs to help with homelessness.
Art of Design
October 8th - Coldwell Banker Atrium at fashion island.
Join us for an exciting evening of live music, silent auctions, drinks and delicious cuisine from acclaimed restaurants. Take home a one of a kind piece in the main event, featuring a showcase auction of unique and original “seats” created by Orange County’s top designers!
I hope you’ll join me in contributing to this amazing organization. Whether you buy a seat at the OC Chef’s Table or volunteer your time in other ways, if we all partner together, we can make a huge difference to the homeless in our community. It starts with us!
