My Take on Home Décor: How to Get Peace & Quietud

My Perspective on Home Décor

When it comes to creating a space that invites a feeling of solitude, it's important to incorporate calming, peaceful elements.

In the spirit of creating peaceful homes for my clients, I named my interior design business Quietude Interiors.

a state of stillness, calmness, and quiet in a person or place

Converting 'House' into 'Home'

I truly believe in design that less is more. Walking in your home and appreciating your surroundings and being able to take in each item with a smile or a little ping in your heart is my goal. Picking colors and textures that sooth your soul after a hectic day of being overly stimulated is crucial. Also, cool pops of color or unique art always stimulates joy and hope.

In my dining room I have a very special handmade shelf my wood artist friend made to fit perfect in my corner, not only does the very cool little drawer hold secrets but the shelf serves as the perfect platform to display a few of my favorite childhood trinkets like a wooden horse my grandpa carved. An old brick form hanging on the wall a toy of Dad’s from the 1930’s, a penguin that’s missing an eye who wobbles down a plank. Also a beautiful a pearl and pink enamel rosary that was my grandmother's.

They all hold a special, sentimental place in my heart and I love glancing over and gleaming a memory from the past.

A new addition to my home is this really great painting of Canyon Park I recently acquired from a client. Not only do I love the style, but it also features one of the best parks to visit in Costa Mesa.

In the spirit of Japanese decluttering expert Marie Kondo’s KonMari method (she encourages keeping only what sparks joy in your home), she promotes getting in touch with the person we really are and what we really love, and reflecting those values, quirks and favorite things in our homes

As you may know, I've been pursuing the art of mindfulness in 2017 (and encouraging others to do the same). It's important to slow down and reconnect with ourselves and what we really love so we can reflect those ideas with our surrounds.

And get this: Fortunately, trend forecasters are predicting an 'anything goes decorating movement in line with our desire to make our homes a haven from the harried world outside', says Houzz expert, Joanna Tovia

I'm excited and interested to see what the results will be from having a more relaxed approach to design this year, anything goes if it makes you happy!
